Philosopher Eugene Gendlin, a colleague of Carl Rogers, was interested in the question of why psychotherapy doesn’t work better for people. He discovered in the 1960s that outcomes didn’t seem to depend so much on what the therapist did, as much as the attitude of clients seeking therapy.
By careful observation of what clients who were successful in therapy were actually doing, Gendlin was able to formulate this into a powerful psychotherapy approach and philosophy which he called “Focusing”.
In these guided meditations we will follow a safe and accessible version of Focusing, seeking insights from a “felt sense”, a physical feeling that embodies your current situation. There is no need to disclose any details of your situation to anyone in these guided self-help meditation sessions.
To join these sessions, email the Quaker Chaplain at jke24@sussex.ac.uk and ask to be added to the email reminder list. Or just drop in to the Meeting House at the time indicated.
