Abstract:
This perspective article discusses Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) as a valuable yet underutilized analytical tool for IB research. QCA provides an innovative approach to empirical scientific work by integrating the key strengths of qualitative (case-oriented) and quantitative (variable-oriented) methodology for small, medium and large sample IB studies, and thus can be used effectively in settings that are ill-suited for quantitative research methods. We also discuss how it can be useful with experiments, indexes and longitudinal data. Moreover, this paper shows how QCA can be used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data. To increase adoption, we also provide code to help facilitate learning and applying QCA for international business, strategy and management research.
