Working at both a strategic and tactical level means having to jump between different levels of abstract thinking – sometimes more abstract and broad, other times more defined and tactical. How do we know which level to operate at? What if the people we’re working with are thinking at a different level? How many levels are there? How do you move between levels?
In this working session, Adrian Imms, Head of Content Strategy, presents a working framework to a problem he faces fairly often. He seeks to understand how it applies to the work of other leaders and managers at Sussex, from any department, and whether other people across the University see this work in different ways or the same way.
There will be time to share alternative viewpoints, sketch your own framework and discuss how you, as a manager or leader, approach work that’s both strategic and tactical.
The learnings from this session are to:
- understand how others approach these responsibilities
- better recognise how to approach them yourself in different situations in future.
