SussexFood chef, Anneliese Denny, competed last week at the Compass Young Chef of the Year competition.
Chartwells, the provider of catering services (under the SussexFood label) and conference services on campus, is part of the Compass Group.
The competition is fought out each year by eight outstanding young chefs, all aged under 24, following regional heats. They all operate across Compass Group, therefore covering various areas of the hospitality industry including fine dining, sports and leisure and, of course, education.
Anneliese, who joined SussexFood in November 2014 was nominated to enter by Exec Chef Luca Nervi, who sees great promise in Anneliese’s cooking prowess.
Luca said, “Anneliese has had a fantastic first year with us and I’m delighted to nominate her for Young Chef of the Year.
"Following last year’s success for our pastry team at Hotel Olympia, it’s wonderful that we can once again enter SussexFood chefs into national competition.”
Anneliese performed brilliantly on the day, with her starter course, mackerel ceviche, shining brightest.
Following the competition Anneliese said, “That was without doubt the most nerve-racking experience of my life! But also one of the best. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster but I’m really proud of myself!”
