Adam Tickell, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Sussex, has been exploring partnership opportunities with local business leaders.
The University of Sussex’s Vice-Chancellor and members of Brighton’s Chamber of Commerce have been exploring how the University can build on existing local partnerships and forge new ones.
Earlier this month, Sussex V-C Adam Tickell met with 20 local business leaders from the Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce to discuss the development of the University’s new ten-year strategy and how Sussex could more actively engage with businesses in the region.
Adam Tickell said: "Although we consider ourselves very much part of the local community and already work with many members of the Chamber, there's so much more we could be doing - whether that's through partnerships, graduate employment schemes, events or harnessing business expertise.
"The event we held with the Chamber is part of our drive to reignite our relationship with the city. I was delighted there was such a warm reception to the University and we're looking forward to connecting more with local businesses, for the benefit of all in the region."
The importance of active and meaningful community and business engagement was highlighted by University staff, students and senior management during the first part to the institution's strategy consultation.
Discussions at the Chamber meeting included looking at opportunities to facilitate graduate employment in the local area, innovative approaches to community engagement, and developments in the higher education sector.
Sarah Springford, Director of Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce, said: "Many good ideas flowed from this enjoyable and useful discussion between Brighton Chamber members and Sussex V-C Adam Tickell and his team."
The meeting with local business leaders represents a vital component of the University’s new strategy formulation and is part of an ongoing engagement activities with stakeholders from across the region.
The following businesses were represented at the meeting:
Always Possible Ltd, Brighton Housing Trust, Business in Brighton, Create Internet Ltd, Each Peach Childcare, Emma Haughton Coaching & Consultancy, Fugu PR, Gene Commerce, Handelsbanken, Joosr, Martin Searle Solicitors, Natwest, Platf9rm, Plus Accounting, Rodhus, Scala Advance.
