In the run-up to Brighton & Hove Pride, the UK’s largest Pride festival, on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 August, University of Sussex Business School staff have organised a week of activities in solidarity with the LGBT+ community.
Starting on Monday 30 July, staff in the Business School office will be dressing up in different colours from the Pride rainbow flag each day, giving away rainbow-coloured stickers and lanyards, and taking part in a number of Pride-related activities, including:
Monday 30 July: PINK or RED clothes
12 noon-2pm: Lunchtime banner and sign making for the upcoming ‘Pride in Business’ picnic and Pride parade
Tuesday 31 July: ORANGE or YELLOW clothes
5.15pm: Screening of the film Pride (2014) in Jubilee 144
About the film: Realising that they share common foes in Margaret Thatcher, the police and the conservative press, London-based gay and lesbian activists lend their support to striking miners in 1984 Wales.
Wednesday 1 August: GREEN or TURQUOISE clothes
11am: Equali-TEA and Pride cake sale
Staff have been encouraged to get the coloured, rainbow icing out and create the brightest, proudest cakes they can. Proceeds will be donated to Brighton and Hove LGBT+ Switchboard.
The cake sale will be followed by a collection later in the day to demonstrate support for the marvellous work the Switchboard does all year round.
Thursday 2 August: INDIGO or VIOLET clothes
10am: LGBT+ Pride seminar
Meg Lewis, Clerical Assistant for Economics and an external equalities trainer and consultant, will run a seminar covering prejudice against and discrimination of LGBT+ people, understanding the latest terminology, basic equalities legislation, and building inclusive spaces for LGBT+ staff and students. Just 30 places are available, so book your place via Eventbrite.
Friday 3 August: MULTICOLOURED RAINBOW DAY
1pm-2.30pm: ‘Pride in Business’ LGBT+ picnic
We wish everyone an enjoyable and inclusive Pride!
