The annual showcase of work created by Media Practice and Music students at the University of Sussex takes over the Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts (ACCA) from next Tuesday 28 May to Thursday 30 May.
It’s an exciting mix of video and sound art installations, animation, documentaries, interactive digital media, short films, podcasts, radio drama, photography and live music performances.
Alli Beddoes, artistic director of Brighton’s Lighthouse gallery, will open the Media Practice showcase at 6.30pm on Tuesday 28 May.
The two-day exhibition of work by final-year BA Media Practice students experiments with digital media, video, animation, story, images and sound to explore cultural identities, social boundaries and emotional landmarks.
It’s open to everyone on Tuesday evening from 6.30pm and on Wednesday 29 May from 10am-3pm.
Then on the evening of Thursday 30 May from 8pm, undergraduate and postgraduate Music degree students take centre stage at The Sussex Music Spring Show to share and celebrate the making of music and sound art in all its forms.
As well as a programme of live performances on the main stage, around the building there will be a mix of cross-genre audiovisual works that rethink music and the moving image, and thought-provoking sound art installations on music and society. Tickets for the Sussex Music Spring Show are also free and can be booked in advance on the ACCA website.
Professor Ed Hughes, Deputy Head of the School of Media, Film and Music, says: "I encourage everyone to come along to be excited, challenged and moved by this exhibition of work by Media Practice and Music students. It marks the pinnacle of their three years here at Sussex and it’s a truly exhilarating testament to their talent, vision and creativity."
