Learning at Work Week 16-22 May
Learning at Work Week aims to engage and inspire people around lifelong learning. It’s a great opportunity for us to celebrate the huge range of learning opportunities available to all-staff at Sussex.
With appraisal conversations just around the corner, this is a good time to think about your development and how Sussex can support your learning. Keep an eye out on our dedicated LAWW web page for more learning activities and events, catering for a range of learning styles and preferences. But if you can’t wait for Learning at Work Week, listen to this 30-minute podcast ‘How to learn at work’ for tips and ideas on how to focus and plan your learning and make your good intentions stick!
Here are some examples of what’s on offer;
- On Tuesday 17 May you will have the opportunity to meet some of the Apprenticeship Training Providers in person over a cuppa and cake. See below for more details.
- The Organisation Development team are hosting a live Q&A session on ‘How to learn at Sussex’ on Wednesday 18 May from 12.00 to 1.00 pm. In this session you will have the opportunity to find out more about learning at Sussex, like coaching or mentoring, management development, wellbeing, menopause awareness or how to support your team with hybrid working. Whatever it may be, ask one of our friendly team about how we can support you. If you would like to join, please book your place here.
- On 26 May from 11.05 am to 11.55 am, D&I Leaders are hosting a webinar on Unlocking Imposter Syndrome & Igniting Inclusion. In this interactive conversation, expert panellists will explore what effects imposter syndrome has on staff and organisations and how workplace leaders can step up to create an environment where imposter syndrome doesn’t exist. If you’re a people manager or lead or team, why not use Learning at Work Week to engage your team in learning? Here are some ideas;
- Dedicate some time in a team meeting to think about learning. You could ask people to share something they’ve learnt recently, or have a discussion about which learning opportunities feel most relevant to the team.
- Commit some time to developing skills that will compliment your role as manager or team leader. Explore Linked In Learning to find some courses that appeal to you and make time in your diary to complete the course.
- Encourage your team to learn by booking time in people’s diaries for personal development. If successful, you could make this a regular team activity.
Mental Health Awareness Week, 9 to 14 May
- Loneliness and mental health at work webinar from 2.00 to 3.00 pm on Monday 9 May. Able Futures explain how they can help support people who are experiencing loneliness that is affecting their time at work.
- Diabetes and mental health webinar from 2.00 to 3.00 pm on Monday 13 June by Able Futures talk about how diabetes and mental health can be connected, and outline how anyone who is in work can get support from the Mental Health Support Service.
- Mind also have some tips on how to manage loneliness and this audio course on LinkedIn Learning on the Upward Spiral of Compassion talks about loneliness, empathy and connection. Our web pages have some online mental health learning available.
- The Wellbeing pages have lots of resources too.
Women’s Health Week, 9 to 14 May
A recent report by the Fawcett Society into Menopause at Work, which you can access here highlighted how severe menopause symptoms can be. One in ten women who have been employed during the menopause have left work due to menopause symptoms. If you or anyone you know is struggling with menopausal symptoms, please see our menopause webpages for what to do if menopausal symptoms are affecting you at work.
- As part of Women’s Health Week Jo Fuller, from the Merry Menopause to Your Period is Your Superpower Masterclass from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm on Monday 9 May will help you understand how to support and honour yourself as your hormone levels change. You will leave this Masterclass with the knowledge to increase your productivity and maximise your wellbeing. This masterclass is for any age.
