The Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) has now launched, and all institutional submissions are due on the 24 January 2023.
The TEF is one of the most important measures of the quality of teaching, learning and student outcomes provided by universities. Run by the Office for Students (OfS), it is designed to enable university applicants to make informed choices and encourage universities to engage in continuous improvements for the benefit of their students.
The TEF assessment requires a detailed submission from the University and new for this TEF, students from each provider are invited to make an independent submission – and so it is also an important student feedback exercise.
When the TEF concludes, each provider will be awarded a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Requires Improvement TEF rating – Sussex currently has a silver award.
Colleagues can view more information about the TEF.
Our 2022 TEF submission has begun
Work on our TEF submission has already begun, with a Steering Group chaired by Professor Kelly Coate, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students, working with staff, representatives from the Students’ Union, and students from across Sussex.
The group will develop the narrative submission and support the students with their independent student submission. We have been gathering examples of excellent education practice and student outcomes (access to high quality employment and further study), as well as the strategies, initiatives and actions that have been put into place – so they are included in the process too.

If you have any information that you believe would be beneficial to the Steering Group and the submission, or if you have any questions about the process, we’d be keen to hear from you. Please contact Kelly Coate or Nadia Pattenden.
