National Coding Week – Free Online Course for Staff

National Coding Week is an initiative launched in 2014 with the aim of inspiring people of all ages to learn and embrace coding skills in today’s digital world. With this year’s event taking place on the 16th-22nd September, there’s no better time to invest in your own development and undertake East Sussex College Groups’s cost-free Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Coding.

- Expand your skill set: Focusing on an introduction to coding within the digital sector, five key units will teach you:
- What coding languages are available, the software development lifecycle, and key skills of a coding professional
- Basic computer terminology in relation to coding, such as Central Processing Unit (CPU) and Random-Access Memory (RAM)
- The advantages and disadvantages of different types of coding and use of pure functions
- Best practice in coding, methods of testing used, and DevOps processes
- The importance of project management and communication for those working in a coding environment.
- Study flexibly for free: With an estimated completion time of 12 weeks, the course is fully online and designed to be self-paced. You will have an experienced assessor on hand to help you with any questions you might have and can flexibly schedule your study at a time that suits you. And the best part is, it’s completely free, meaning there’s no financial barrier to improving your skills.

Signing up is simple. Just visit the East Sussex College Group website and choose Understanding Coding. Make sure to sign up using your @sussex.ac.uk email address.
You will be also asked to complete a short questionnaire, including a simple maths and English assessment, to enable you to gain access to the free course.
