Pride at Sussex call for submissions

As Pride month approaches in June, LGBTQ+ staff are invited to take part in Pride at Sussex, a photography and writing exhibition reflecting the experiences of LGBTQ+ people at the University. If your submission is selected, a short photography session will be arranged with the University photographer. Your photograph and a short extract of writing about your experiences being LGBTQ+ at Sussex will then be displayed in the library throughout June.
If you wish to remain anonymous, the photographer can take a picture of your favourite place on campus or something else at the University that you want to represent you.
We want to represent LGBTQ+ staff from across the Sussex community – you are encouraged to make a submission whatever your job role. We also hope to feature a diverse range of identities and experiences, including those with multiply-marginalised identities. The writing and experiences you share don’t have to be positive: we want to hold space too for the more challenging experiences LGBTQ+ staff may have had at the University.
How to take part
To make a submission, please fill in this form. Complete as many or as few of the prompts as you like, or share your experiences in the free text box. We will select about 150 words to feature in the exhibition, and the rest of your submission may appear on an accompanying Padlet which will be shared on the Staff Hub. If you have any issues or concerns about using the form, please email lgbtqplusstories@sussex.ac.uk instead.
The form will be open until Friday 4 April 2025. Submissions will be selected in early April, and photography sessions will be scheduled throughout April and early May.
About the project
The Pride at Sussex project is led by James Ward-Lee, Chair of the Trans and Non-Binary staff network, in collaboration with a working group made up of members of the LGBTQ+ Self-Assessment Team. If you have any questions about the project, please email lgbtqplusstories@sussex.ac.uk.
