What’s next for the New Web Estate project?

The New Web Estate project is helping us deliver a brand-new website. Crucially, a modern, dynamic and well-designed website that will help us to strengthen and boost student recruitment in line with our Recovery and Rebuilding strategic plan and Sussex 2035 Strategy.
At the start of February, our website moved to a new governance structure and we introduced new ways of working, but there is still much more to come from the project.
Here’s what you can expect to see next.
Rebranded and updated pages
On Tuesday 24 February, you’ll see big changes on our website.
Rebranded and updated course pages will be live in time for the start of the new UCAS cycle.
You will also see a completely new design for the Sussex homepage, as well as new top-level navigation and drop-down global navigation.
The rest of our external-facing pages will look different too, reflecting our new brand identity (new colours and fonts etc.).
All these pages will stay on our existing web platform for now, but we'll start to move them to our new platform in phases later this year.
Internal facing pages (like those for HR and Finance) will stay the same for now as we work on plans for our new intranet.
Audit work continues
The Digital team are working with colleagues across the University to audit our existing online content.
This work will continue in the coming months, covering public and student-facing content and information for prospective employees that needs to be externally available.
The team will be in touch in good time if this work involves you.
A new intranet for Sussex staff
Up to now, we have not had an institution-wide intranet* for Sussex staff and have relied on a separate ‘staff’ section of our publicly available website.
This approach does present some challenges, and we intend to change it in due course. Work is underway to ensure any replacement meets the necessary technical requirements and fully supports the needs of our staff. We will keep you updated as this progresses.
In the meantime. purely internal-facing staff content like that on the HR or Finance pages will continue to be dealt with by local web-editors (or the University’s Digital team in the case of School, Faculty or research Services pages).
*An intranet is a closed, access-controlled, internal website or network that helps employees get things done within an organisation.
