Work is now well underway in the Student Centre to build the Atrium Market, which will be the first ‘frictionless’ shop in a UK university.
Shoppers will scan their payment card on entering, select their food or drinks – then simply walk out. Instead, weighted shelves will detect what you are buying as will the scanners as you exit the store.
The Atrium Market will sell coffee from local brand Redroaster, which is also available in other cafes on campus, along with a range of sandwiches, snacks, Tanpopo sushi and gyoza, and Japanese and Asian halal ready meals.
To see what the finished outlet will look like, check out our earlier story from December.
