Abstract:
Academic literature often frames AI adoption as a technical pipeline, yet the lived reality is akin to a sociotechnical challenge. Drawing on frontline experience leading a wide ranging evaluation of AI in prostate cancer radiology diagnostics at Quibim, this talk explores the realities of real world evidence projects in medtech.
The talk explores the institutional frictions between commercial timelines, regulatory compliance, and meaningful public trust. Moving beyond the case study, it reflects on knowledge production when research is led by private actors rather than academic units. Finally, it interrogates existing models of university–industry collaboration, asking what forms of cross-sectoral co-production may lead to equitable AI usage in healthcare.
This seminar will be held in person in Jub-G32 and online via Microsoft Teams for those who cannot attend physically. If you would like to attend this seminar via Teams please contact us at Business School Research Support <business-research@sussex.ac.uk> for joining details
