Professor Richard Disney
A leading Sussex academic has accepted an invitation from the Treasury to join a special governmental advisory council, informing UK economic policy on a range of issues.
Professor Richard Disney, Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex, has joined the Council of Economic Advisors - an advisory panel made up of economists from the public and private sector that will provide insight and advice to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the government on a range of key economic issues affecting the UK today.
The panel had their first meeting at 11 Downing Street last week and will continue to meet with the Chancellor and HM Treasury on a regular basis, ensuring that decisions the UK government make regarding UK economic policy are subject to the proper scrutiny of experts in the field.
Speaking of the appointment, Professor Disney said: “It’s an honour to have been invited to join the Council of Economic Advisors. At a time when the UK economy faces many long-run challenges, I'm pleased to be able to work with the government to provide sound, rational advice on the future of policy-making.”
