A record number of staff took part in Sussexsport's annual Boundary Run on Wednesday (30 May).
The fun run, which has been an annual event since 2006 and marks the end of Sussexsport's month-long fitness and wellbeing challenge, attracted more than 60 members of staff from different schools and departments on campus.
The 4km cross-country route around the edge of campus showcases fantastic views of the Sussex Downs and campus and is a popular running and walking route for staff and students all year round.
Sussex's Chief Operating Officer, Dr Tim Westlake, opened this year's Boundary Run, which offers staff an opportunity to connect with colleagues across campus.
Gemma Harman, School Administrator for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS), said:
"I found out about the Boundary Run because staff in MPS and Psychology have been very involved with Commit to Get Fit this month, working together to enjoy exercise and support wellbeing in both departments. Ending a month of fun with several colleagues from both schools by completing the Boundary Run was fantastic.
"I ran with my colleague Justine from MPS and my husband Mike who works in Psychology, we chatted and giggled the whole way round!"
Mark Raven, who has just completed a hat-trick of marathons in six weeks to raise money for charity, also happened to be celebrating his third Boundary Run.
Mark said: “The Boundary Run was the first stretch of the legs since completing the Edinburgh marathon on Sunday. It's a great fun event, even completing the nasty hill beyond the student residences is rewarded with a stunning view over the Downs and campus.
"It was great to see so many runners and walkers taking part in Sussexsport's annual event, and to swap stories with two fellow runners who had also completed the Edinburgh Marathon. This was my third Boundary Run and I plan to be back next year - hopefully when the legs are not quite so tired!”
- If you'd like to run regularly with colleagues on campus, Sussexsport has a social running group who run every Thursday lunchtime, leaving from the Sport Centre.
