Members of UCU began 14 days of strike action last Thursday and Friday, followed by Monday to Wednesday this week. Further strike days are scheduled for Monday to Thursday next week and Monday to Friday the following week. These are the remaining dates:
- Week three – Monday 2, Tuesday 3, Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 March
- Week four – Monday 9, Tuesday 10, Wednesday 11, Thursday 12 and Friday 13 March
Colleagues who have taken part in industrial action in February have been advised to complete the industrial action declaration form by 5pm today (Friday 28 February). This will enable the University to phase the deductions, with deductions for February strike days made in the March payroll and deductions for the March strike days in the April payroll.
The University’s stated position is that the University will deduct pay from staff who take lawful industrial action at the rate of 1/365th of salary, for each day that is not worked.
Deducting a day's pay for a day of strike action is a normal and accepted outcome of strike action.
The University has shared detailed information with staff and students on both the running of the University during industrial action and the measures put in place to mitigate the impact on students' education. Please do familiarise yourself with this guidance.
