As part of the first strategic plan of Sussex 2035, the Recovery and Rebuilding Strategic Plan, a Service Efficiency and Effectiveness initiative is being launched across Professional Services. The initiative will have a dedicated team to lead the process improvement activity across PS areas.
This agile team will support PS Divisions and Faculty PS to redesign processes, streamline how we work, enhance service delivery and build a culture of continuous improvement. Our focus will be on quick win improvements, reducing manual processes and supporting staff to improve how they work in response to changes in teams due to the Voluntary Leavers Scheme. Acting as a supporting function, the team will work directly with colleagues to understand current pain points in their processes, whilst empowering them to make improvements that will benefit their daily work. We will shortly be advertising for internal applicants to join this new team on a secondment basis.
A community of practice for those with an interest in service efficiency and effectiveness, or those whose role already includes process improvement work, will also be meeting from the autumn term to share best practice, discuss challenges and undertake some real-life problem-solving activities. This will be a chance for colleagues to share improvements they have made and learn from each other where there are process similarities, whilst also looking externally at what others are doing.
If you have an interest in process improvement and/or service design, please discuss with your line manager as part of your ADR conversation in the first instance. Joining the new team or the community of practice will be a great opportunity to work across PS and develop new skills.
