The University of Sussex has retained its position among the top 20 UK institutions in the world according to the latest global rankings.
The University is 20th among UK institutions in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and is 160th out of 1,527 institutions globally.
Compared to 2020, the University’s scores for Research, Citations and International Outlook categories all improved.
The University ranked among the top 60 institutions in the world for the International Outlook category, which takes into account the proportion of international students and staff as well as the level of international collaboration.
The THE World University Rankings are the only global performance tables that judge research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, using 13 performance indicators.
The University of Sussex’s scores in Teaching and Research categories are based in part by the results of the annual Academic Reputation Survey conducted by Elsevier.
The University is encouraging academics to complete the next reputation survey, likely to run between November 2020 and February 2021, if they receive an invitation to help cement the University’s position at the top end of the global rankings.
The Guardian newspaper has also published its annual university league table in the past week, ranking Sussex 59th in the UK. The Guardian’s is the university guide that leans most heavily on the National Student Survey, which produced a “sobering” set of results for Sussex this year.
