Michelle Gordon, the University’s Director of External Relations, will be leaving the institution in late autumn to take up consulting work.
Michelle has been at Sussex since October 2014, starting out as Director of Communications and then becoming the University’s first Director of External Relations in April 2018.
The External Relations division is made up of the ACCA, Communications and External Affairs, Development and Alumni Relations, Digital Creative Media and Marketing.
Tim Westlake, Chief Operating Officer commented: “Michelle has been an exceptional colleague who over many years has provided straight-talking and valuable leadership.
“She played a fundamental role in driving the development of the Sussex 2025 strategy, along with the Executive Group, and I want to thank her for an outstanding contribution to Sussex.
“On behalf of the University, I wish her well in her new adventures and I hope you will all join me in passing on our heartfelt congratulations.”
Michelle Gordon added: “I came to Sussex hoping for a challenge in a new sector and I certainly got that in spades!
“I have had the great fortune to work on a range of exciting research, teaching and student initiatives and it was a particular pleasure to help realise the vision of the University’s 2025 strategic framework.
“I am proud to lead such a talented and dedicated group of colleagues in External Relations who I have no doubt will continue to contribute to the success of the University for many years to come.
“I look forward to hearing wonderful things about Sussex from afar and wish to thank both academic and professional services colleagues for their support over the time that I have been here.”
The University will announce plans to recruit Michelle’s successor in due course.
