Vaccination guidance for staff
We have recently updated the Semester Two pages with new guidance from the HR team on vaccinations – including arrangements for vaccine appointments and sickness absence.
The University strongly endorses employees to take part in the vaccination programme against Covid-19, in line with government guidance. We understand that it is ultimately each individual's personal choice, but we request all of our employees to make a fully informed decision on whether to accept the Covid-19 vaccination by reading literature published by official sources.
Clinically vulnerable employees who have been advised not to receive the vaccine for medical reasons will be risk assessed by the Health and Safety department and supported on a case-by-case basis in consultation with Occupational Health, the line manager and School or department HR Business Partner. If you have any concerns about the vaccination programme we recommend you contact your doctor or the NHS 111 helpline.
We acknowledge that while the vaccine is very effective, it will not be 100% effective. Vaccinated employees will therefore still be required to follow rules around social distancing, handwashing and the use of personal protective equipment (such as masks) as part of the Covid-19 security measures.
Testing on campus
The University is encouraging employees who need to work on campus to be tested up to twice a week until the end of June. We recommend that even if you have been vaccinated, it is still worthwhile getting tested until official guidance changes.
You can make a booking for a test on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, at any time from 10am to 3pm. The University Covid-19 test centre is located on level 1 of Bramber House, in Dine Central. It will operate there until the end of June, testing for staff and students without symptoms.
Anyone with a new cough, a high temperature or changes in their sense of smell or taste should instead self-isolate and arrange for a home test kit to be delivered. More information about testing on campus.

Your wellbeing
As we approach the end of this academic year and move out of lockdown we are aware that many staff will be coping with multiple transitions. These can trigger all kinds of personal responses. Care First provides advice and practical support as well as access to 24/ counselling to all our staff.
To help staff adjust to coming out of lockdown and help maintain their mental wellbeing, a member of the staff mental health forum has also created an online noticeboard of resources. This includes tips on getting the most out of nature, active listening pointers, guidance on dealing with change and loss, and supporting people living with anxiety.
