Wellbeing:
Now, as ever, it’s important to look after your wellbeing. If you feel you could benefit from talking to someone, our Mental Health First Aiders are trained to listen non-judgementally, provide support, give reassurance and signpost to appropriate professional services. Our Mental Health First Aider page is now live and available here. You’ll find more details on some of our trained Mental Health First Aiders, so you can see if there’s someone you’d be comfortable approaching for help.
Menopause: 1 in 4 women experiencing the menopause will consider leaving the workplace, so it’s important everyone starts talking more openly about the menopause to raise awareness and ensure staff receive the support they need. We are hosting a Raising Menopause Awareness in the Workplace session on the Monday 14 March. This session is open to all staff. Please come along and find out more about what the menopause is and how you can be supported at work, or how you can support a colleague experiencing menopausal symptoms. If you haven’t already, visit our web pages for resources and support.
The Occupational Health service is provided by an independent professional organisation called Heales Medical. They are contracted by the University to offer advice and support on work-related health issues, and will be hosting a series of webinars throughout the year.
Since March is National Bed Month, Heales will be hosting a live webinar on Sleep on Thursday 30 March. The session will cover the importance of sleep and explore the impact of sleep deprivation on your body and how this can impact your work life. The event will end with tips for how to get a better night’s rest. See below.
If you would like to ‘Boost your Resilience with Mindfulness’, there’s a great series of 10-15 minute audio-lessons on Linked In Learning. The course includes meditation practise and techniques for managing stress and negative feelings. You can download the Linked In Learning app onto your phone and listen to content like this when you’re out and about – a great way to learn and develop on the go! You can also access meditation exercises by Christopher McDermott, Lead Chaplain here.
