West Slope development
On 17 May we held the second webinar focused on the £200million investment programme that is working to deliver transformation for students and staff alike over the next few years. The theme of the webinar was ‘Creating a better campus’, and we heard from colleagues about the new Student Centre, Libraries Programme, West Slope development, and the wider strategy for our entire estate. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, you can watch the recording. Questions about the programme are welcomed, and you can email the bettercampus@sussex.ac.uk team any time.
Other highlights this month include:
- West Slope: Work is well underway to prepare our campus for our new West Slope development – a brand new playground and basketball court are currently being built, the popular student garden is in its new home and will soon be ready for planting, and our work to prepare services and utilities is ready to start.
- Student Information System: The SIS project continues to make progress, and recommendations are due to be presented to Council for approval in July. We then hope to be able to share information about the confirmed supplier and tell you more about the implementation timeline.
- Cyber Security Programme: The Cyber Security Team are always working to ensure we have the best protection in place. A new tool to assist with this will be rolled out shortly – it doesn’t require anything from users, apart from you to logout of your devices over a weekend. More information on timings of this will be shared in due course.
- Professional Services Space Review: Requirements gathering for the PS space review will commence over the coming weeks, now that our partner for this phase of the programme has been appointed. We will share information and timings about this with impacted colleagues once confirmed.
- Identity and Access Management System project: At the end of June/early July all staff will be asked by email to sign onto the Identity and Access Management System called Okta. This is the new Single Sign On platform and by signing up you will be able to easily access applications as they are added over the coming months.
- Unified Communications (Telephony) project: The project team have now met with over half of all Senior Management Teams across the University to hear their thoughts and questions on the proposed digital telephony solutions. This will continue into July. A change network of local project champions is being established to gather detailed requirements and plan local communications and training.

The ERIP* Annual Planning Cycle for 2022/23 has been completed with the recommended delivery plan for 2022/23 from Sussex Projects approved at the May Capital Projects Executive Board. The teams across the portfolios will now work to successfully deliver the approved projects against the agreed timetable with oversight and assurance being provided by the Sussex Projects team.
*ERIP is the Education and Research Investment Programme, through which we are investing £200million in transformations which will help the University of Sussex achieve its vision of being a better University for a better world.
