Welcoming our new students

We are delighted to be welcoming thousands of new students to their new home on campus between the 15 and 18 September 2022. This year’s arrivals weekend is going to be one of the busiest and most challenging for years – not only do we have more students than we have had for the past few of years, but work is also underway to prepare our campus for our exciting West Slope development, meaning some changes to vehicle and pedestrian routes around campus.
Lots of work has been going on behind the scenes to make arrivals as smooth as possible. We have extended the length of arrivals weekend to reduce congestion, we have produced lots of signage to help our new residents navigate their new home and we have even arranged a special land train to help students and families to travel between car parks and their residences.
Thousands of students have booked a car space and more will join us via coach, bus and train. Car park arrivals are scheduled between 08.00 and 16.00 at timed increments, but we expect campus to be busy all day.
It’s going to be busy across Brighton from Thursday 15 to Sunday 18 September, with both universities welcoming thousands of new student arrivals.
What can you do to help?
Campus will be significantly busier than usual between the 15 and 18 September, with Saturday the 17 September being particularly busy with the highest number of arrivals scheduled. We recommend that you avoid campus on Saturday 17 September and on the other days, please be mindful that campus and its surrounding roads are going to be significantly busier than usual. We recommend that staff avoid Science Car Park, Upper Arts Car Park and any car parks near residences (Lewes Court and Northfield etc) if driving to campus on Thursday 15 September and Friday 16 September.
