Amber Lou, Partnerships Development Manager in Global Engagement, represented the University of Sussex at the China Annual Conference for International Education (CACIE) in Beijing last 17 February. Amber, who presented at the Symposium on UK-China Transnational Education (TNE), shared with UK and Chinese fellows how Sussex has created broader benefits that go beyond the delivery of TNE degree programmes from our strategic partnership in China, and earned recognition in the Higher Education (HE) sector despite as yet being a young player in the field of TNE.
What is CACIE?
CACIE is one of the largest and leading international education events in Asia-Pacific, attracting thousands of decision-makers, key influencers, professionals and practitioners from all over the world annually since 2000.For more than 20 years, CACIE has become a premier and unmissable gathering for international educators to discover new trends and practical solutions to global challenges, explore opportunities to build institutional partnerships and seek innovative approaches for high-quality development in education.The conference attracted about 65,000 participants from 1,000 educational institutions, including over 400 speakers.
The Symposium on UK-China Transnational Education was jointly organised by China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), British Council and UK’s Department for Business and Trade, with support from Universities UK International. The Symposium focused on the latest policy developments, and invited TNE policymakers, experts and practitioners from both countries to share insights, identify opportunities and challenges, and explore innovation under the influence of the Covid-19 pandemic and the complex and ever-changing international environment. In the panel discussion session, the symposium also explored how to establish a long-term and sustainable strategic partnership between universities of the two countries in or beyond TNE.
What did Amber present?
In Amber’s presentation, “TNE and Beyond: Creating Broader Benefits from Strategic Partnership,”she highlighted that Sussex’s approach to partnerships development in China is in unison with our Internationalisation Strategy and principle that “students are at the heart of everything we do". In furthering our TNE partnership with Zhejiang Gongshang University, Sussex’s work in China revolves around building capacity in teaching and learning, delivering green internationalisation, and cultivating global citizens.
The presentation was very well received by the audience. A succession of representatives from universities in China expressed keen interest in initiating collaborations with Sussex and carried on discussions around internationalisation.
Amber Lou is a China-based member of Sussex staff. Her role focuses on developing Sussex’s partnerships with universities and institutions in China, building on our UK-China TNE joint institute, the Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute Zhejiang Gongshang University in Hangzhou, China.
