On Thursday 20 July a delegation from the University of Sussex’s Chaplaincy joined The Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner, Bishop of Chichester, at his Palace, as part of a wider engagement with leaders of all faiths in the local area.
James Croft, the University’s first Humanist Chaplain and Associate Chaplains Kim Wood and Reverend Prebendary Alan Green joined the Bishop to celebrate alongside other educational, sporting, and charitable organisations from across East and West Sussex.
The purpose of the evening was to connect organisations in the region contributing to the common good: the University’s inclusion was a recognition of our important work in research and education, as well as the contributions we make to the broader community through our outreach and public engagement efforts.
James Croft said of the gathering:
“The University of Sussex is an important regional and national educational institution, and one of the roles of our Chaplaincy is to build and maintain positive relationships with other civic bodies. The Church of England and the University of Sussex are united in our desire to contribute to the common good, so it was a pleasure to join the Bishop of Chichester to celebrate charitable and educational organisations which are doing just that. The presence of two of our Associate Chaplains demonstrates the positive relationship between the University and Sussex’s Christian communities – a relationship I’m committed to strengthening through participation in events such as this evening at the Bishop’s Palace.”

Anglican services are held at 12pm on Tuesdays
Catholic Mass is held Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 12pm, Tuesdays at 5:30pm
