As Welcome Week approaches, the University is launching the Ask Me campaign for another year. The campaign aims to give our new students the very best welcome to Sussex by supporting them with any queries or concerns as they begin their journey with us.
We know that arriving on campus for the first time can be a big step for students. Our staff can play a huge part in helping them settle into university life as quickly as possible and we are calling on colleagues to act as ambassadors to help new students in their first few days of life at Sussex.
How you can help
We would like you to be one of our Ask Me ambassadors by wearing one of our orange ‘Ask Me’ badges and taking a proactive approach when you’re walking around campus throughout Welcome Week. This could involve spotting if someone looks lost, passing on any essential advice, or simply being receptive and friendly to being asked a question. It could make all the difference to our new students and help them feel really at home.
Ask Me badges are available to collect from receptions at Sussex House, the Library, and the Student Centre.
Where to find information
You’ll probably know the answer to a student’s question, but during the week there’ll be plenty of trained ambassadors based around the campus, ready to help, if you are stuck. There is lots of information on the New and Returning Student pages and the Student Hub, but if the answer is not easily found you can direct students to the Student Centre, the hub for student support services.
At the Student Centre, information and support is available:
- in-person via the Welcome desk from 8.30am-5pm, Monday-Friday
- by calling 01273 075700, 9am-4.30pm, Monday-Friday
Students can also visit My Sussex, our online support portal for students which provides useful information and wellbeing resources 24/7.
If someone needs directions, check out our campus map for more information.
The Welcome and Triage desk will be open from 8.30am-5pm, and Professional Services support stalls will be available every day of Welcome Week from 11am-3pm.
