Stonewall Workplace Equality Index
In our vision for Inclusive Sussex we set ourselves the target of achieving a top-100 ranking in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) by 2025.
Our first application was to the 2020 WEI and we were ranked 407th. We submitted a further application to the 2022 WEI and we were ranked 264th.
The University is submitting an entry into the 2024 Index, and the results are due in Spring 2024.
As part of the current Workplace Equality Index submission, we are sharing a link to Stonewall’s annual Workplace Equality Index Staff Feedback Questionnaire to all staff.
Stonewall Staff Feedback Questionnaire
This is an optional survey which any member of staff at Sussex may complete. The results of the survey go directly to Stonewall. Staff at the University, including within the EDI Unit and HR, will not be able to see your answers.
The deadline for completing this questionnaire is 15 December 2023.

Stonewall has provided further information in the first page of the survey including a link to their privacy notice. The further information provided by Stonewall includes the following statement:
“The information you provide is anonymous and completely confidential. We don’t report publicly or to your employer on any responses that may be personally identifiable.
Stonewall aims to be as transparent as possible when processing data. Below we outline how and why we use the data you submit for analytical purposes:
- Reporting, to your employer, average scores and trends on key indicators of LGBTQ+ inclusion in your workplace (where sample sizes are too small, only national, regional and sector trends will be shared with your employer).
- Reporting national, regional and sector trends on LGBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace and society.”
