University of Sussex Business School Faculty Achieve Top Scholar Rankings

The University of Sussex Business School is celebrating the remarkable achievements of its faculty members in the latest ScholarGPS rankings. These rankings demonstrate the significant contributions of our scholars to their respective fields, highlighting the global impact and quality of their research.
The Business School has distinguished itself with several faculty members receiving top honours, with the University of Sussex ranking:
- #1 Worldwide (Prior Five Years and Lifetime) for Low Carbon Economy as a global speciality,
- # 1 Worldwide (Prior Five Years) for Political Economy as a global speciality
- #2 in the UK and #11 Worldwide (Prior Five Years) for Economics as a global discipline
- #4 Worldwide (Prior Five Years) for Economic impact analysis as a global speciality
Emeritus Professor L. Alan Winters has been recognized as a Top Scholar - Lifetime, ranking #933 in Economics and an impressive #52 in the speciality of Poverty. This accolade places Professor Winters among the top 0.5% of scholars worldwide, based on the profound influence of their research in social sciences and economics.
Professor Benjamin Sovacool, a distinguished faculty member in the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at the Business School, is ranked in the Top 30 – Lifetime for Economics and is recognized for his pioneering work in energy policy and sustainability. With hundreds of publications, Professor Sovacool’s research has been instrumental in shaping energy policy and promoting sustainable practices worldwide.
Professor Richard Tol, a leading expert in environmental economics, is ranked among the top 100 economists globally. His extensive body of work, which includes over 350 publications, has significantly advanced the understanding of climate change and its economic impacts.
