Paperless car parking is being introduced in October
It’s time to say goodbye to those long treks to the Transport Office at the Hastings building for physical parking permits.
The University is on a mission to transition to a fully paperless parking permit and payment system. This new system aims to streamline the parking process for staff and make it more convenient by switching parking permits and scratch cards from physical pieces of paper to a digital alternative, using a new online self-service portal.
Many of you will be familiar with similar parking systems as they are commonly in use in car parks all over the country and will be using a commonly used app. This replaces the need to register your vehicle via Sussex Direct.
Paperless parking will start from Monday 14 October, with staff getting early access to the portal to register for a digital parking permit for their vehicles.
You should continue to display your current paper permit during September. More information about the new system, including comprehensive answers to frequently asked questions, will be published soon.
The future of parking is here and it's digital
All University staff (including employers based on campus) will be able to apply for a digital staff parking permit and will have the option to either pay for an annual car park permit or opt to pay as they go daily.
The new parking system requires the installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras which will occur in August.
Chris Harrison, Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities, said: "This transition marks a significant shift in the University's approach to parking management.
"Offering a more user-friendly experience for all members of the University community, the new system will make it easier and more convenient for car park users to be in control of their parking and come up with a solution that suits their needs."
Digital first
The decision to go digital is driven by a desire to modernise operations and adapt to the evolving needs of the University community.
The transition to paperless parking reflects the University's ongoing efforts to create a ‘digital first’ approach, leveraging technology to improve services and streamline processes. As Sussex continues to evolve, initiatives like this show our commitment to innovation and excellence in all aspects of campus life.
