The University of Sussex has announced that it is launching a new Level 6 degree apprenticeship for Data Analytics and Digital Solutions for Business, to meet the needs of local employers and to upskill their workforce.
Starting in January 2025, this new apprenticeship programme has been designed to prepare people for a career at the cutting edge of business analytics and computer science. The programme is taught by University experts in the field and will help individuals to develop quantitative and analytical skills, as well as coding and programming capabilities required by modern business analysts in a variety of sectors.
A degree apprenticeship allows people to study for a degree 20% of their time whilst staying in employment, benefitting employers who want to develop and retain their staff.
As part of the Surrey and Sussex Institute of Technology, the University’s first cohort of apprentices started in September in Manufacturing Engineering, and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, making this the third apprenticeship to be offered. More are currently in development with local industry.
Geraldine Turton, Head of Apprenticeships at the University of Sussex, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our degree apprenticeship offering, to build on the success of our current Data Science and Artificial intelligence apprenticeship course. The digital technology economy is growing quickly across the South East with ICT and digital sectors in Brighton growing by 40% in the last five years. Skills England have also identified that digital skills will be in critical demand, across a range of sectors so it is important to offer courses to meet these skills needs.
