New staff car parking charges from 1 March 2025

Staff parking charges on campus are set to increase on 1 March 2025 following a thirteen-year ‘freeze’. Parking charges have not risen since 2012, and were reduced from £2.50 to £2 a day during the Covid-19 pandemic. Charging for weekend parking will come into effect at the same time.
Pay as you go charges
For pay as you go (PAYG) parking permit holders, the charge will increase from £2 per day to £3 per day, paid through the PayByPhone system. From October 2025, an annual £30 administration charge will also be payable by staff on these permit types.
Annual permit charges
For staff with annual parking permits a new grade-linked charge will be in place. The current cost of these permits is £30 a month (pro rata for part time staff), paid by salary deduction. From 1 March, staff on grades 1-5 will not see an increase in the monthly charge; they will continue to pay £30 a month. For staff on grades 6-8 the monthly charge will increase to £37 a month; and for staff on grades 9 and 10 the charge will be £45 a month. These changes will be reflected in March’s pay and will be made automatically – you do not need to take any action.
Changing from a pay as you go to an annual permit
You can check your current permit type by logging on to your Parking Account. If you wish to change your permit type, e.g. from a pay as you go permit to an annual permit, please contact the Transport Office.
Parking charge hours
Currently, parking charges for staff are enforced from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. From 1 March 2025 charges for staff will be applied seven days a week, 9am-5pm.
Annual review
A review of parking charges will be carried out annually in the autumn, for effect the following academic year. After this price change on 1 March 2025 there will be no further changes to charges before October 2026.
Penalty charges
Failure to have a valid permit to park on campus, or to have paid for your parking period, will result in a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) being issued. PCNs are administered by our parking partner, First Parking, and are automatically issued using information from the ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras on campus, which record all vehicles entering and exiting campus. There is no charge for vehicles that are on campus for less than one hour.
