We have made significant improvements to MEQs this term, based on feedback from staff and students, which should make the process much easier and help us increase response rate. Achieving a good response rate is essential to making the feedback robust. The improvements to the process will make a real difference to the effectiveness of MEQs at Sussex, but we need help from teaching staff to make it work for everyone.
If you teach Year 1, Year 2 or Foundation Year undergraduates, MEQs will launch on Monday 24 March and close on 11 April. It will run the same way across all parts of the University:
- Students are now added to each module automatically - they will no longer need to select their course or module as part of the survey.
- Students will receive a personalised email on Monday 24 March inviting them to complete the MEQ (with a link) for their modules.
- Each module Canvas site will have a link to the MEQ, so students can access their surveys as they choose.
- Module convenors will have access to the Survey Instructor Portal enabling them to see the current response rate for their module/s. Access to the results, as well as student comments, will be available as soon as the survey closes. This means no delays in getting the feedback to staff.
Module convenors will also receive an email from meqs@sussex.ac.uk on Monday 24 March to let you know that the survey for your module has opened and giving guidance on using the Instructor portal to view your surveys.
The request for tutors is the same as previous years: please encourage your students to complete the MEQs and give time in class for it where you can (they only take 2-4 mins to complete).
You can do this by:
- directing students to your module's Canvas site where they will find a link to the survey
- additionally you could use this slide to show in class (click the link to download). This contains a link and QR code which will take students to a dedicated portal to complete their surveys.
MEQs for final-year and postgraduate modules will be launched later in April, to avoid over-surveying. If you require support, please contact meqs@sussex.ac.uk.
