Educational Enhancement will be busy over the summer planning for the new academic year. In addition to our regular offer of support and staff development, there are some other significant streams of work happening.
Here are three to look out for:
- Changes to submission and feedback platforms
- Jisc's Building Digital Capabilities Tool
- Principles for AI in Education at the University of Sussex
Changes to submission and feedback platforms
As many of you will now know, the university will no longer use Turnitin Feedback Studio for submission, grading and feedback. Instead, the Similarity Score will be available through Canvas SpeedGrader where grading and feedback will take place. This will provide a more streamlined and reliable assessment experience for all, without needing to switch between as many platforms across assessments and modules.
Updated guidance for staff and students is nearly ready and as well as being available in the usual places will be communicated widely. If you rely on local guidance, whether School based web pages, shared files or downloaded documents, be sure to find the new guidance as it becomes available.
The vast majority of students and staff will already be familiar with Canvas SpeedGrader, however, we recognise change can be challenging. We are here to help, if there is anything you are unsure about or need support with please do not hesitate to get in touch and look out for dedicated support from your Learning Technologists over the coming months.
Jisc's Building Digital Capabilities Discovery Tool
Jisc's Building Digital Capabilities Discovery Tool is being piloted in the Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities as part of of project led by Dylan Beattie, Director for Digital Skills and Learning. With the aim to adopt the language of the Jisc Digital Capabilities Framework and make explicit the digital skills curriula within the Faculty, the tool will be used to support self-assessment and capture evidence of development.
The pilot and associated activity across the university is being supported by Educational Enhancement and colleagues in Library, Culture and Heritage. The licence allows anyone with a Sussex email address to access the service from August 1st, so if you'd like to give it a go look out for further comms soon.
Principles for AI in Education
Following a wide consultation and an energetic AI Summit, Senate approved the Principles for AI use in Education at the University of Sussex. The 'Sussex Seven' will soon have a home on the web site and Educational Enhancement are busy planning and supporting implementation and dissemination. Plans include briefing events, focused discussions at the next AI in Education Community of Practice and much more.
If you'd like to find out more about the principles or would like to explore the opportunities and challenges of AI in education, please reach out to your colleagues in Educational Enhancement. If you'd like to join the Community of Practice, please email us to be added to the mailing list.
We wish you all the best for the summer and we look forward to working with you all in the new academic year.
