University of Sussex delegates with UIBE hosts

On 5 December 2025, a senior delegation from the University of Sussex, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Robin Banerjee, visited the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing to deepen international academic collaboration. The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions, with a focus on business innovation, technology application, and sustainability governance.
The delegation included Professor Simon Thompson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International); Dr Xiaoxiang Zhang, Associate Dean, Global and Civic Engagement, at the University of Sussex Business School; and Sam Lin, Global Partnership Manager. Together, they engaged in high-level discussions with UIBE leadership, exploring strategic opportunities for collaboration in areas of mutual strength—such as digital transformation, sustainable innovation practices, and green finance.
UIBE, recognised as one of China’s top universities for international business, economics, and finance, has a strong track record of research excellence and global engagement. President Zhao Zhongxiu welcomed the Sussex delegation, highlighting a shared vision and mutual interest in advancing the digital economy, financial governance, and international business policy.
The newly signed MoU establishes a formal framework for enhanced cooperation in education, research, and joint initiatives between the University of Sussex Business School and selected schools and departments at UIBE. The partnership will support joint projects and exchange initiatives aimed at preparing future leaders to tackle complex global challenges through innovation and sustainability.
Professor Robin Banerjee underscored the strategic importance of the collaboration, noting that the University of Sussex Business School is at the forefront of integrating technology and sustainability into business education and research.
Dr Xiaoxiang Zhang added:
“This partnership with UIBE reflects our strong commitment to advancing digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable innovation in business. UIBE’s strengths in green finance and global governance align perfectly with our academic mission, and we look forward to creating impactful, cross-border initiatives together.”
The agreement marks a significant step forward in the University of Sussex Business School’s global engagement strategy and reinforces its role as a leader in fostering international partnerships that drive forward business innovation and sustainability.
