Fancy making the most of our beautiful campus surroundings over the summer? Sussex Sport is running a series of affordable – and in many cases free – wellbeing activities to help get colleagues moving, socialising and enjoying the natural environment around campus.
We have a packed schedule coming up, with something for everyone: from boundary walks and runs, to guided mountain biking, pickleball, and even beach volleyball. Mark your calendars now!
Staff Pickleball sessions
Following feedback from colleagues, we’re moving the staff pickleball sessions to Tuesday lunchtimes, from 1pm-2pm. The first session at the new time is on Tuesday 28 April – come on down to try one of the fastest growing sports in the world! Sessions cost just £2. To book, log in to the Sussex Sport booking site using your short-form IT credentials (e.g. ab123) and password and search for Active Staff Pickleball.
Boundary walks
There are two boundary walks in May, each a gentle stroll taking in the beauty of the South downs, discovering paths and trails that you can revisit at your own leisure:
- Wednesday 6 May, 12pm-1pm, guided by Ben and Ria from the Sussex Sport team
- Wednesday 13 May, 12pm-1pm, guided by staff from the Sustainability team.
Both these sessions are free outside the Sport Centre. Just remember to wear suitable clothing and footwear. Book a spot and find out more via the links above.
Boundary Fun Run
If you’re thinking about getting into running – or have already caught the running bug – then why not come along to the Boundary Fun Run? The route will be well signposted and staff from Sussex Sport will be around to ensure everyone is safe and supported throughout.
- Wednesday 20 May, 12pm-1pm, starting at the Sports Centre
This event is also free of charge. Feel free to bring friends – or make some new ones on the day! The Fun Run starts at the Sports Centre. You can leave your belongings there if needed and use the showers after the run.
Guided mountain biking
We’re running four mountain biking sessions in June, with bikes and helmets provided! Late afternoons in mid-summer are the perfect time to explore our amazing natural surroundings on two wheels.
- Tuesday 2 June, 4:15pm-5:45pm
- Tuesday 9 June, 4:15pm-5:45pm
- Tuesday 16 June, 4:15pm-5:45pm
- Tuesday 23 June, 4:15pm-5:45pm
These sessions cost £5 and will be led by Ben and Jon from Sussex Sport – both fully qualified instructors who will guide you on a ride either around the trails, through the forests, high up on the downs, or in Stanmer Park. The perfect way to finish off the working day.
Beach volleyball tournament
Have you ever wanted to try beach volleyball? We’re holding a fun and friendly beach volleyball tournament down on the seafront in August! Teams can be anywhere from two to six players and beginners are welcome!
- Friday 27 August, 5pm-7pm, Yellowave Brighton
