Professor Sarah Sawyer
Professor Cornel Sandvoss concluded his term as Executive Dean of Media, Arts and Humanities (MAH) on 31 August 2026. Cornel led significant change and improvement in a range of areas in MAH, including student recruitment, student experience and outcomes, curriculum development and internationalisation, and brought agreement on a new and more efficient organisational structure (from 2027) that will support the Faculty in realising more of its interdisciplinary strengths. Cornel will lead on developing international partnerships for MAH over the next year and then return to his substantive professorial role.
Professor Sarah Sawyer has been appointed as interim Executive Dean of MAH for one year from September. Sarah is Professor of Philosophy; she joined Sussex in 2006 and became Professor in 2017. She has performed many roles at the University, including elected member of Senate, Director of Teaching and Learning, Head of Department and Associate Dean (Research and Innovation).
