Students from our global partnership network joined Sussex for a summer of learning and cultural immersion as we celebrated the Summer School’s 30th anniversary year.Students earnSussex academic credit to transfer back to their home degree. Modules were offered by FoSEM,MAH and Social Sciences.
We welcomed students from 22 countries around the world. Our first cohort arrived on Saturday 27June and our final group departedon Saturday 22 August. Students made East Slope their home for the summer and settled quickly into life on campus. For many of the students, the Summer School is their first international overseas experience, and they leave Sussex with valuable and lasting memories.
The experience is driven foremost by academic study, while social and cultural immersion continues to enrich Summer School life.Weekly Friday excursions took students to local landmarks including Battle Abbey, the Seven Sisters and Arundel Castle. Our brilliant team ofSussex student Summer Student Ambassadors delivered an on-campus programme ranging from traditional afternoon tea and pub quizzes to karaoke and an outdoor games night. You can read about student’s experiences on the Summer School Stories blog: https://www.sussex.ac.uk/study/study-abroad-at-sussex/our-programs/summer-school/summer-school-stories
For the second year running we ran a bespoke 2-week English Language & British Culture module welcoming students from the China Scholarship Council’s ISEC Programme. We were delighted to host students from our TNE partner Zhejiang Gongshang University for the fourth consecutive year of the Engineering & Informatics 4-week programme, blending English language learning, cultural studies and disciplinary teaching.
We were especially proud to welcome, for the third year running, five Ukrainian students from our partner institution, OlesHonchar Dnipro National University. These students are supported by the Emergency Ukrainian Students Sussex Fund Appeal.
Summer School students leave campus as alumni and are eligible for the Sussex Alumni Scholarship to support future postgraduate study.
