You are warmly invited to Playful Sussex, an afternoon of presentations, demonstrations, and discussion on the value of playful approaches in higher education. 

This event is part of RE:PLAY (Researching the Effectiveness of Playful Learning in Higher Education), a three-year ESRC-funded project in which the University of Sussex is playing a central role. Bringing together researchers from across the UK, this is the first large-scale study of its kind focused on playful learning in UK universities. 

RE:PLAY explores how methods such as role play, simulation, collaborative games, and interactive challenges are currently used in teaching and learning. The project aims to build an evidence base for what works, how, and why, responding to growing interest in alternatives to traditional classroom dynamics.

We are also still inviting expressions of interest from academics to become RE:PLAY Fellows. Fellows will be supported to redesign one of their modules using playful approaches and to research the experience of change in their own practice, as well as the impacts on students. No prior experience with playful methods is required — we are looking for colleagues with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to try something new.
