Big changes are coming to Sussexsport this summer! We’re expanding and upgrading our facilities to better support the wellbeing of our students and staff.
A brand-new, larger gym will open in the Sports Centre, and a dedicated wellbeing and fitness studio will launch in the heart of campus - both ready in time for Welcome Week 2025.
New Sports Centre Gym
Construction is now underway on a new gym located in our campus Sports Centre. With further investment in new pieces of equipment to further enhance our offer, this multipurpose space will be equipped with Life Fitness equipment, including treadmills, resistance machines, and free weights - everything you’d expect from a modern, high-quality gym.
By relocating the current gym from the Falmer Sports Complex to the Sports Centre and creating dedicated strength and conditioning spaces and a dedicated cardio area, we are significantly increasing capacity, allowing us to better meet the needs of our student and staff community.

New Arches Wellbeing and Fitness Studio
We’re also creating a brand-new wellbeing and fitness studio in the Student Centre Arches. This informal, welcoming space is designed for small group sessions or solo use, and will be equipped with mats, stretch bands, and fitness balls - ideal for yoga, Pilates, or quiet moments of mindfulness.
Located next to student accommodation and the Student Centre—and just across from the future Health and Wellbeing Centre - the new studio brings Sussex Sport right to the heart of campus, making it more accessible than ever.
Work on the studio will take place over the summer, transforming vacant Student Centre Arches space into a vibrant new hub for wellbeing. The studio will occupy two units which became available following Taj Supermarket’s decision to close its campus store.

Falmer Sports Complex: evolving for performance
The Falmer Sports Complex will continue to serve as the training base for our competitive student sports teams, an expanded Active US outdoor program and external partners, such as Brighton College, Crawley Town FC and ProDirect, an external provider of a football educational academy based on campus. Falmer Sports Complex will also continue to be home to our dedicated Strength and Conditioning Suite, which will be available for hire throughout the week and open to all members at weekends.
