Sussex Sport has officially opened the doors to its new and improved gym.
Bigger, brighter and better equipped, the new gym is conveniently located in the Sports Centre - close to the Students’ Union and to Falmer Railway Station, making it easy to access.
Research shows that students are 50% more likely to remain enrolled when they are actively engaged in university life – including sport. This investment in the student experience will not only strengthen recruitment efforts but also improve student outcomes - demonstrating our Recovery and Rebuilding Strategic Plan (2025–28) in action.
More space
The new gym has reopened following an extensive refurbishment over the summer. Improvements include:
- New equipment
- More space, allowing more people to workout
- Dedicated workout zones
Whether you're a seasoned fitness enthusiast or simply looking to enhance your wellbeing, our campus sports facilities - including the gym and the new Active Arches studio - are open to all staff offering something for everyone.
The new gym is located in the Sports Centre
Officially open
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil was joined by the Sussex Sport team and guests on Monday 22 September to take a tour of the new gym and celebrate its opening.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sasha Roseneil said: “The refurbished Sports Centre gym represents a significant investment in the all round experience and wellbeing of students at Sussex. I hope that the expanded, upgraded facility will encourage more members of the Sussex community to try it out, and to become regular users, boosting their physical health and mental resilience.
“By providing this greatly improved accessible and welcoming space for everyone to recharge and reset, we are supporting our students to thrive and enhancing the attractiveness of Sussex to future students. This is the first move in the human flourishing theme of our new strategy, Sussex 2035: Creating Progressive Futures – flourishing, sustainability and progress for the whole world.”
