Surveying students within one faculty

If you only need to survey students within a single faculty, go ahead: you don't need to run this past the Survey Approval Group.

Surveying students within more than one faculty

If you would like to run a survey of students across more than one faculty, or across the university as a whole, you need to request approval first from Sussex’s Survey Approval Group. This helps to:

• reduce survey fatigue among students (which they have highlighted as a concern)
• ensure multiple surveys are not running at the same time
• pool resources where possible
• ensure there is a clear plan for sharing feedback and actions from the survey with students and appropriate staff.

The Survey Approval Group meets every six weeks to review proposals (as required). Please allow a minimum of eight weeks between submitting your proposal and your intended survey launch date.

It may be useful to refer to the surveys calendar below when submitting your proposal, so you can minimise clashes with other institutional surveys.

Your proposal will be reviewed by:

• the Surveys Approval Group, and
• if required, the Student Voice Sub-Committee (SVSC).

After the review, the survey owner(s) will be contacted with the next steps. If your survey is not approved, you can explore alternative approaches.
