This year's national Stress Awareness Day is on Wednesday 2 November and to highlight the importance of stress prevention and wellbeing in the workplace, Sussexsport are offering free yoga nidra classes for staff.
Yoga nidra is a lying down meditation often called yogic sleep, which can help bring a deep sense of calmness, quietness and clarity. No previous experience or sportswear is required - just wear something to keep you warm.
Each class is limited to 10 people. You can find out more about the two sessions and book by following the links below:
The Staff Development Unit (SDU) will also be running two Stress Awareness workshops on Wednesday 2 November. To register a place, book online using Sussex Direct.
National Stress Awareness Day is organised by the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) and this year's theme is Workforce Wellness. If you would like to organise your own event or distribute information within your school or department, you can download lots of free resources from the ISMA webpages. And don't forget to tell us how you're getting involved by getting in touch on Twitter and Facebook.
Social support and keeping active is a key factor in building resilience and handling stress. And there's a variety of on campus and off campus wellbeing opportunities available to staff.
Try out twice weekly mindfulness sessions at the Meeting House with Rev Chris McDermott, join Sussexsport for social running at lunchtimes and unwind with evening staff-only bouldering sessions. The countryside surrounding campus also provides a fantastic opportunity to get outside during work breaks. Find out more information about walks close to campus including maps of the area.
The University is also supporting the #IAMWHOLE campaign, launched earlier this month by Brighton and Hove NHS and the YMCA to combat mental health stigma. If you know young people who may benefit from the local campaign, visit their website.
Stress is an invevitable part of life, but being able to identify your feelings and developing an awareness of how you react to stress can be crucial in helping to manage your responses. Check out the TED talks below for innovative approaches towards stress management.
