Professor Peter Dolton
Professor Peter Dolton has been appointed Research Director at the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (NIESR), the oldest economics policy research establishment of its kind in the UK.
Professor Dolton will remain Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex but will spend 20 per cent of his time at NIESR, which is situated at the heart of Westminster with close links to all Government departments. Professor Dolton said: “NIESR has a huge international reputation.
“It is 80 years old next year and has an important pedigree from Keynes's founding to today's position in at the heart of the policy debate.
“I am excited to help steer its important work as we enter one of the most uncertain economic periods in living memory.”
Professor Dolton has a long history of association with the Institute, most recently on his work on the winners and losers of public-sector pensions, published in the August 2016 National Institute Economic Review.
He is one of the UK’s leading applied microeconomists and has worked extensively on education, health and labour economics. He is a member of the Doctors and Dentists Review Body, the School Teacher Pay Review Body and the Armed Forces Review body.
At Sussex, he is based in the School of Business, Management and Economics (BMEc).
