The Lyceum venue at Wilderness Festival
The Global Voices team will be putting on a packed programme of events, talks and thought-provoking panel discussions in the festival's Lyceum venue.
Taking inspiration from Aristotle’s ‘place of public learning’ founded in 335 BC, the Lyceum events will also include interactive workshops, exclusive film screenings and Q&As covering topics such as ecology, the environment, contemporary politics, art, anthropology and philosophy.
The diverse list of sessions will include
- ‘University Challenge(D),’ a live cabaret quiz show with famous Sussex alumni, actors Jolyon Rubinstein and Heydon Prowse, and special guest quizmaster, television producer John Lloyd
- a session on ‘Ebola: Why did it spread so fast and didn’t kill so many people as predicted?’ presented by author Jake Cornwall-Scoones
University of Sussex presenters include Professor Peter Newell, who will speak about ‘How Did We Do That? The Politics and Possibilities of Rapid Transition’ and Dr Robert Nurick, who will hold an interactive workshop on ‘The Impact of Deportation and Forced Return on Migrant Families and Communities’.
Rosa Weeks, from the Global Voices team, who organises the event, said: "We are really excited to be taking our pop-up summer school to Wilderness again – it is a great opportunity for our researchers and practitioners to present their work to the wider public in a fun and accessible environment."
