Today (24 February 2022), Interim Vice-Chancellor David Maguire wrote to all staff. You can read the message below:
Dear colleague,
I wanted to write to you all today in the light of the events unfolding at pace in the Ukraine to offer my support in these unsettling times and to ensure you all know where you can go to seek help and advice. As a community, it’s really important that we support each other through challenging circumstances and look after those who feel worried and unsure. Your mental health and wellbeing are an absolute priority for us.
In the first instance, you may wish to talk directly to your line manager about any concerns. I’d also like to reassure you that the support services at the University are here for you, day and night, should you wish to discuss how you are feeling and the impact these events may have on you personally.
The University offers a range of services which you might find helpful at this difficult time and if you would like to talk through any concerns in a confidential setting. These include:
- Our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is provided by Health Assured and is a 24-hour support service for staff, offering information, signposting and support for a range of difficult experiences.
Contact the helpline on 0800 316 9337 where you will be linked with a responder who will help you find the most appropriate source of support, including counselling.
Support is confidential and staff can self-refer. There is no need to inform your line manager.
Register with Health Assured now using the access code: worklife and password: worklife
- You can also use our Multi-faith chaplaincy. Please email: J.S.Thorogood@sussex.ac.uk or Lead Chaplain C.McDermott@sussex.ac.uk
Warm regards,
David
