Eat Central is temporarily closing – where can I eat?

Eat Central is set to close on 25 March for a full refurbishment, but there will be a host of pop-ups and alternatives in place for staff, students and visitors.
The campus’ main eatery will be shut until the end of June for a complete revamp that will see it transformed into a versatile and sociable space for day and night. The new-look interior will include flexible seating, a screen and a stage as part of a full revamp, with a changing food court-style roster of local vendors alongside classic favourites to reflect the trend for people to eat different things while together.
While the redevelopment is underway, there will be a number of options for eating on campus:
- The Sussex Saver meal will be served outside from a food truck on Bramber Lawns just beside Eat Central
- Bramber Lawns will also house other pop-ups, such as the Caribbean Cafe, paella, Mac Shack and much more - these will change weekly and include plenty of vegan and vegetarian options
- The existing outdoor seating will still be available
- Sussex Uni Food’s other cafes will be stocking up on the other goodies normally found in Eat Central: Botanical will be selling Tanpopo sushi, while Arts Piazza Café will offer Proper Cornish pasties and pies
- Arts Piazza Cafe will be open at the weekends with the addition of breakfast and lunch heat-to-eat options
- The Veg Bowl @ Dhaba will be introducing fortnightly Indian pop-ups as well as brand new vegetarian/vegan breakfast bowls
- The kitchens at Eat Central will remain open and food will still be freshly made on campus so you can make the most of the free delivery across campus via the Sussex Uni Food App – simply select the closest location (including kiosks in the Bridge and Student Centre) for delivery then choose your meal, including the Tortilla menu. You can even preorder and choose when you want your food delivered
- And don’t forget the great food available at IDS Bar & Kitchen as well as the Students’ Union’s Falmer Bar, The Deli, Room 76 and Northfield Bar!
How to find out more
There will be a number of opportunities to find out more about the planned changes at a pop-up stand in Eat Central between noon and 2pm on Tuesday 5 March, Wednesday 13 March and Thursday 21 March.
