Background and Origins
South Asian Heritage Month, from 18 July to 17 August, honours the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of South Asians worldwide. This celebration encompasses India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives and was established in the UK in 2020. The month aims to raise awareness and appreciation for South Asia’s diverse cultural heritage. It seeks to bridge cultural gaps, promote inclusivity, and highlight South Asians' contributions in various fields.

The 2024 theme, "Unity in Diversity" emphasises cultural harmony, addressing identity and belonging whilst at the same time inspiring a deeper appreciation for South Asian heritage which enriches our global community.
