The campus is a welcoming space for members of the public, and the University prides itself on an open spirit of debate and free thought.
From time to time, media organisations, political parties, social media influencers or members of the public may visit campus to interview members of our community about a particular topic. They do not need permission to film or record in public areas and will often not inform the University of their presence.
If you are approached for an interview, here are a few pointers to help support you:
- You have the right to ask who is filming or recording you, what the content is for, and where it will be shared.
- You are entitled to ask these questions before giving consent to be filmed or interviewed.
- If you don't feel comfortable taking part, it is absolutely your right to decline and walk away.
Our media team are always on hand to help and support you, whether it’s with communicating your latest research or dealing with ad-hoc enquiries from news organisations or anyone on social media. If you are ever unsure about being filmed or quoted, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
