Professor Janet Boddy
Janet Boddy, Professor of Child, Youth and Family Studies at the University of Sussex, has been elected as a new Trustee of the Council of the Academy of Social Sciences.
The Academy of Social Sciences is the national academy of academics, practitioners and learned societies in social science, and the five newly-elected Trustees join 15 existing members of the Council who are collectively responsible for its governance.
Professor Boddy is an interdisciplinary social scientist based in the School of Education and Social Work at Sussex, and Adjunct Professor in the NOVA Social Research Institute at OsloMet University. Her research addresses family lives and welfare in the UK and internationally, using qualitative, longitudinal and narrative methods to build contextualised understanding of complex life course inequalities and the implications for policy and practice. Reflecting on her election to the Academy’s Council, Janet said, “Social sciences have a critical role in challenging times. My research informs policy and practice by learning from children, young people and families – I’m honoured to share that experience as a trustee.”
Professor Rosie Cox, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences said: "This recognition is thoroughly deserved, reflecting the esteem in which Janet is held amongst her fellow social scientists. As a fellow of the Academy, I am delighted that Janet will be serving as a Trustee and I look forward to hearing more about how her knowledge and experience shapes the operations and future direction of this distinguished institution.”
